Why I recommend Prism Launcher
Here's a list of reasons why I recommend Prism over other launchers. While I am a bit biased since I am(as of writing this) a helper in their Discord- I've PERSONALLY been using Prism since 2022.
- Prism Launcher is programmed in C++ and uses a very simple but powerful UI. This means less of your computers resources go towards rendering an entire webpage (Yes- Normal Minecraft launcher and Curseforge use Electron. Which is Chrome/Chromium with a bunch of extensions. Modrinth uses tauri, which could be faster than Electron but I'm not sure)
- Prism Launcher isn't locked to a specific mod distribution platform, you can use modpacks from several sources, and install mods directly from both Modrinth and if you need, Curseforge without needing to open a webpage*
*If the mod doesn't block downloads from external launchers- yes this is a thing that CurseForge does, Prism can't bypass it else they risk getting their API Key revoked - Prism Launcher has a function over form UI. It's not pretty and might be a bit confusing at first but once you get used to it, it's really fast and really nice to use
- Prism Launcher can be used portably- installed onto a USB for example, being used between computers. Or even so you don't use up all of your space on your main drive
- Prism Launcher is cross platform, You can use it on ARM systems or even use it's official flatpak package to run it on a Steam Deck, Which works really well with Steam Input or a controller mod
- Prism Launcher supports Fabric, Forge, Neoforge, Quilt and Liteloader out of the box but if you know what you're doing, you can use your own custom mod loaders or minecraft.jar mods if desired
- Prism Launcher is open sourced, meaning you can contribute directly to Prism Launcher with bugfixes and features if you desire or just browse it's source code. Modrinth is also open source but the vanilla launcher and Curseforge are not
- Prism Launcher uses seperated instances with their own .minecraft and stuff. This provides advantages like having multiple versions of the game with mods without needing to deal with worrying about corruption or moving files and stuff compared to the vanilla launcher
- Prism Launcher is the only Minecraft launcher to have an Archlinux repo package
You can grab Prism Launcher from their website
However if Prism Launcher is too uncomfortable for you:
- Modrinth app might be a good alternative.
- ATLauncher - While I've also heard good things about ATLauncher, I've never really used it. In my short experience it's been very unpleasant to use with its clunky UI and features missing from Prism Launcher or Modrinth
